Sat high above Grenoble on its eponymous hill, this iconic fortification is the undoubted king of historic spots and tourist attractions alike in this part of the world. The best way to get here is obviously the cable car, but those hoping to get their pulse going can look forward to a tough but manageable one hour climb. Gorgeous panoramic views await, along with no small amount of regional and national history. Stendhal himself was all sorts of glowing when talking about the vistas from up here, and we’re not about to question that aesthetic opinions of Marie-Henri Bayle himself. There are also a couple of restaurants up here, for those looking for a most scenic dinner spot.
