Thunderbird Park's slogan is 'Where adventure joins nature', and there's definitely no shortage of either adventure or nature to be enjoyed by visitors of all ages at this unique resort destination found to the north of town along Cedar Creek and the border of Tamborine National Park. It's a popular spot for both locals and tourists, day trippers and holidaymakers, business retreats and school groups, and seemingly everyone in between. Accommodation runs the gambit from camping and bunkhouses to more luxurious lodges and guest rooms.
Guests can just as easily while away the hours or weeks relaxing in a hammock next to rock pools or hiking through the rainforest to see Cedar Creek Falls, but aside from the tranquil surroundings and abundance of natural sights, the main draw here are the numerous activities offered. These range from favourites such as mini golf and laser (tag for city slickers like us) to Australia's largest guided zipline tour, the Gold Coast's largest tree top adventure (with six courses and more than 100 different challenges) and the ever-popular horseback riding.
However, perhaps the most interesting activity is prospecting, or 'fossicking' in local parlance, for Thundereggs in the world's largest Thunderegg mine. What is a Thunderegg you ask? They're round, spherulite rocks with beautiful crystalline interiors that were mysteriously formed hundreds of millions of years ago by volcanic activity. See the official website for more information about accommodation, activities, facilities, transportation from Gold Coast or Brisbane, the park's history and much more.
