First held in 1994, over the years the Supercars Castrol Gold Coast 600, or just the GC600 for short, has seen several name and format changes, but has nevertheless grown into one of the biggest events in the entire region, motorsports or otherwise. More than just a race, the so-called Superfest (14 - 23 Oct) is now an 11-day long showcase of the city featuring various entertainment, sports and social happenings locations from Pimpama to Coolangatta. Highlights include Race of Stars International Karting at Xtreme Karting, the Miss Supercars competition and the 600 Sounds concert series powered by Sea FM, which this year will be featuring some of the biggest names in Australian rock, like Peking Duk, The Living End, The Rubens and Birds of Tokyo.

Of course the main attraction is still obviously the Supercars tearing around the 3km street track located at the north end of Surfers Paradise, with cars reaching speed of almost 300km/h on the opening straightaway. Pre-purchase ticket holders can travel for free on the G:link, Surfside buses and Queensland Rail City Network trains on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, which allows attendees to make the most of what's on. For those attending the precinct areas to watch the cars up close from the grand stands or trackside, note that you can bring your own food, but no glass or alcohol is permitted, however, numerous bars within the area operate from 10:00 each morning, which is earlier enough for us. To keep up with the action and get live commentary of what's currently going on both on and off the track tune into 101.7 FM.
