From Gold Coast Airport Australia's flag carrier and largest airline offers direct flights to Adelaide, Cairns, Melbourne, New Castle and Sydney, as well as four destinations in New Zealand, namely Auckland, Christchurch, Queenstown and Wellington. As a bit of trivia, Qantas was founded all the way back in 1920, making it the third oldest airline in the world still in operation (after Avianca and KLM), and the company's name is actually an acronym standing for Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services, as the Flying Kangaroo's first home was the town of Winston located near the geographic centre of Queensland and currently home to some 954 inhabitants.
