The Gold Coast is a destination of superlatives, so while it gets overshadowed by the beaches, various theme parks and countless adventures in the hinterland, it should come as no surprise that the city's privately-run wax museum is said to be the largest of its kind in both Australia and the southern hemisphere. Divided into two completely different sections, visitors first take a tour of the World of Wax upstairs, comprised of various famous personalities throughout history, from explorers and scientists to film stars, royalty and politicians, with a large contingent of Australian celebrities. After everyone has gotten their prerequisite selfie with Michael Jackson, the tour proceeds to the Chamber of Horrors in the dungeon-like downstairs, where the eerie items on display include a real shrunken head and various interesting medieval torture devices.
