An izakaya is a Japanese bar that serves food, or maybe a restaurant that serves beer and saké. After a few hours it’s hard to remember. Either way, Etsu Izakaya is as fine an example of the form as you’ll find outside Japan. Open from 17:00 till late dishes are intended to be shared and ordered over the course of the evening, making the meal an adventure that often lasts longer than intended, but always satisfies. All the standard izakaya dishes are available, including sashimi, sushi, grilled meats, salads and tempura. If you can’t decide, we recommend an omakase set menu, with well-balanced selections of the delights on offer.
