Calling Cav's a Gold Coast icon doesn't do it justice, as its roots run directly back to the one and only James 'Jim' Freeman Cavill, whose widely regarded as the founder of Surfers Paradise, arriving in what was then simply known as the south coast region in the early 1920s. However, in a sign of the times the current proprietor and Jim's great-grandson Richard Cavill has plans to shutter the famed hacienda-style eatery and build a 13-story mixed-use tower on the site sometime in 2017. It's currently uncertain if the restaurant will continue on in the new premises, so don't pass up the chance to taste a piece of Gold Coast history if you've still got the chance.
