This magnificent Charles Rennie Mackintosh designed building originally opened in 1906, is now a museum of education with free guided tours. Historic classrooms and an Edwardian cookery room give folk the chance to experience school days of former times. The three classroom reconstructions show the changing face of the schoolroom from the Victorian era through the Second World War to the classroom of the fifties and sixties. The barrel vaulted cookery room, cloakrooms, and ceramic-tiled drill hall are restored to Mackintosh's original 1906 designs. Great interactive programmes for children which allow them to get dressed up and experience the bad old Victorian school days. The ice-cream soda bar and traditional Scottish sweeties for sale are a dentists nightmare and kids delight.
