The city's ethnographic museum was built in the 1960s on the spot of dictator Enver Hoxha's family home, which burnt down earlier. It combines the best aspects of the typical local architecture and three floors of traditional rooms featuring costumes and household items, giving good insights into how a patriarchal family lived in 19th-century Gjirokastra.
