As Gdynia was instated as a city in 1926, it's the only Polish large-scale city to be younger than the medium of photography—meaning, in many ways, that much of the lifespan of the city has been documented through a camera lens. With archives amassing a collection of over 40,000+ photographs, the City of Gdynia Museum has compiled an exhibit that both pushes us to engage in various ways of "looking" while also discovering the historical narrative of the city itself. The act of looking isn't as simple as one might think: one photograph can be observed and interpreted very differently by various people—which is why the exhibit has been set up in a way to make different ways of "looking" an active part of the experience.
