The Royal Mile is a succession of streets running from the Castle to the Holyroodhouse Palace, a distance of almost one British mile (1.6 km) and is the main drag for tourists in Edinburgh's Old Town, with the expected selection of cafes, restaurants and predominantly 'touristy' shops. Largely pedestrianised in places there is plenty of street entertainment to be found along the route against the eerie backdrop of Edinburgh's old town buildings.
