Best Brunch Places to Enjoy This Summer

27 Jun 2024

In hindsight, it is strange that it took so long for brunch to become an international phenomenon. We’re early birds here at In Your Pocket, but we understand that not everyone likes to get up early for breakfast. Marrying the best parts of breakfast and lunch makes all the sense in the world. In fact, we’re more than happy to eat brunch, even when we’ve already devoured a breakfast. Croatia has plenty of brilliant brunch spots all around the country, and we’ve picked out some of our favourites for your late-morning munching.

Bepa, Split

Located in the heart of Split's old town, on the historical Pjaca, this charming street food restaurant is the perfect spot for a hearty brunch. Lunch is a must here as the natural shade and the green wooden tables and chairs on the outdoor terrace give the place an earthy green, peaceful feel. Light lunch options are bountiful, as are the portions, and include Caesar salad, daily pasta options, burgers and sandwiches. Everyone is welcome, so even the most rigorous vegans will have delicious choices here. At dinner time, the restaurant's theme changes as everything slows and becomes more romantic. The quality and the price match, and the scene is just the right amount of vibrant and historical. Don't miss the fantastic selection of homemade desserts.

Cafe bistro Orlando, Dubrovnik

A perfect spot for breakfast on a warm day: this place has just three tables inside but a wonderful terrace right on Stradun. Apart from home-baked rolls and croissants, you can treat yourself to dalmatian cured ham, scrambled eggs, fresh juice, tea and coffee. A bit on the pricey side due to the prime location.

Balance Brunch, Zagreb

Brunch is brilliant. Don’t fight it; embrace the magic of breakfast and lunch coming together! It is the perfect balance of the two, and yes, that is a relatively loose pivot to talking about Balance Brunch, a contemporary brunch and bakery spot in Zagreb. The menu is sparkling, with plenty of locally sourced ingredients, allowing visitors to fill up with Zagreb’s finest produce.

Marenda, Šibenik

A tiny room selling fishy snacks of the anchovy, pilchard and mackerel variety, with the odd bit of squid or hake thrown in for good measure. There is a small table inside and a wooden bench on the alley outside. Locals frequently call in for a glass or two of red wine served from the barrel. And don’t be surprised if they suddenly start singing.
