A vast and seemingly desolate area of limestone rock likened to a moonscape, the Burren is actually filled with an array of flora and fauna - some unique to the area - as well as some truly bizarre rock formations and Stone Age tombs and monuments older than the Pyramids of Egypt. It's eerily beautiful, with an air of magic and mystery, and ramblers will delight at the sheer beauty of the region. The Visitor Centre at Kilfenora gives a very good introductory exhibition you should visit before embarking on a walk through time and geographical wonders, and it's also a good place to stock up on essentials before venturing out into this unforgettable landscape.
