Perched atop a hill just outside the town of Cashel, this spectacular group of medieval buildings dominates the view of the local area. It includes a 12th Century round tower, high cross and Romanesque chapel, 13th Century Gothic cathedral and a 15th Century castle. Guided tours tell the sometimes gruesome but always fascinating history of the buildings that have seen an awful lot of important events in Irish history, but it's worth visiting for the site of alone.
