Built in 1879, this famous venue was demolished and rebuilt several years later and is now one of the city's most atmospheric entertainment meccas. On Dame Street, opposite Dublin Castle, it’s currently owned by promoters MCD. The theatre serves its original purpose as a home for drama, and comedians have been known to play here, but it’s probably better known as a music venue. The theatre layout - with balconies, giant drapes and tiered seating - is ideal for live music. Tight enough to be intimate, big enough to draw a crowd, if your favourite act is playing here, it’ll be a good night. Look out for the well known red metal and glass façade.
