One of the many delightful things about Ireland is that, because of its long and eventful history, it is littered with countless ruins and relics more than a millenium old, and Clonmacnoise has got to be one of the most outstanding. Founded by St Ciarán in the 6th Century, this tremendous site includes the ruins of a cathedral, several churches, two round towers, three high crosses, castle ruins and the largest collection of early Christian graveslabs in western Europe. The Visitor Centre reveals the fascinating history of the site, plus the landscape, flora and fauna of the area.
