Croatian Heritage Hotels

28 Mar 2025

Croatia is practically swimming in history, so it stands to reason that the country will have plenty of historic hotels for a night’s sleep with a difference. We’ve collected a handful of the finest heritage spots around the country, hotels where you’ll find stories around every corner and years of experience guaranteeing a classy stay.

Maškovića Han, Vrana, Pakoštane

A gorgeous heritage hotel in beautiful Pakoštane, Maškovića Han is a tremendous spot in a meticulously renovated 17th-century setting. Whether you are coming for dinner, a special event, or staying the night, quality is guaranteed, with plenty of romance to add sparkle to the situation. The complex has a fascinating story, starting life as Jusuf Maškovič’s planned sanctuary before his early demise ended that idea, but such tumult is a million miles away from the splendour that stands today. The seasonal menu is fantastic, and Vrana Lake is nearby.

Armerun Hotel and Residences, Šibenik

There is so much to love about Aremerun Hotel and Residences that we aren’t entirely sure where to start. The hotel itself is an exercise in excellence, with well-stocked rooms providing perfect rest and recuperation before exploring all that Šibenik has to offer. The breakfast? You’ll just have to experience that for yourself, but if there is a better hotel breakfast in the country, we’re yet to devour it. The whole thing takes place in the perfect location, with easy access to the city and no shortage of delicious food to fuel your explorations.

Judita Palace, Split

It doesn’t get much better than staying in a grand old mansion in the heart of Split, right? The Pavlović Palace underwent extensive renovations at the beginning of the 21st century, opening its doors as the Judita Palace Hotel in 2011, but the development didn’t end with the grand opening. This place has gone from strength to strength and is recognised today as one of the most authentic accommodation options in Split. A stay here is a beautiful way to embrace the flow of life in Split, with all the creature comforts you could desire. They say it is a “journey that takes you home,” and we won’t disagree.

Almayer - Art & Heritage Hotel, Zadar

A serene 4-star boutique hotel that personifies attention to every detail! Located in the city-centre and in a classical old building, this renovation masterpiece entwines new and old, preserving the age old outer look, then immersing the lavish Mediterranean from within. It has nine exclusive rooms, a subtle secret garden with a glass house, a wine bar and bistro. A taste of Croatia and Dalmatia is seen in the food, the wine, fabric, and art.

Roxanich Vinarija and Design Hotel, Motovun

Design hotels should be an expression of style and class, and this stunning spot in Motovun doesn’t let the side down. Part winery and part hotel, Roxanich is all elegance, whether you are taking in the charms of the hills, sampling a glass or three, or simply getting a good night’s sleep in one of the dreamlike rooms and suites. The 32 rooms and suites take design seriously, and some of the views are seriously spectacular, particularly when enjoyed from the vantage point of the outdoor pool.
