It might currently take the name of its sponsors, but to all and sundry this remains the Millennium Stadium. This incredible stadium was opened in 1999, just in time for that year’s Rugby World Cup, and it has played host to wins, losses, heartbreak and triumph in the years since. Some 73,931 fans can pack into the stadium, the second-largest in the world with a fully retractable roof and one famous for its raucous atmosphere and grin-inducing singalongs. A statue of former Welsh rugby president Tasker Watkins stands outside, although don’t be surprised to hear locals cry for similar homages to Alun Wyn Jones and the latest group of Welsh heroes. The stadium also hosts other sports, along with massive concerts.
