The essential attraction in Cardiff, the city’s eponymous castle is an absolutely majestic piece of history and architecture. Originally built in the 11th century by Norma invaders, it has been through many different hands and just as many renovations in the centuries since, but now it is well and truly in the keeping of the public. Make no mistake about it, this is one of the most important pieces of Welsh history, with conflicts and upheavals such as the Glyndwr Rising taking place within its walls. Today the castle and mansion are open to the public and often host big entertainment events, with Welsh icons like Tom Jones and the Stereophonics playing here over the years. Many towers from the medieval times still stand today, along with museums, cultural centres, gates and a whole lot more.
