A beach so beautiful that even the elephants will venture here, although that should be taken more as a play on the name (Muizenberg is Dutch for ‘mice mountain’) than anything to do with the friendly land beasts. The beach is best known for the none-more-idyllic cabins that line the beach, a colourful parade of architecture that is simply begging to be photographed.
The town of Muizenberg lies about 30km from the Cape Town City Centre and is a popular space for day-trippers, especially during the summer months when the waters of Muizenberg present a refreshing and relatively warmer place to cool off than the beaches around Camps Bay. Don't be surprised to find yourself in snaking traffic jams in the height of summer. This is a top destination for surfers and there are a number of surf schools and places to rent boards.
