The former home and studio of one of the most influential 20th Century South African artists, Irma Stern (1894-1966), is a colourful museum filled with paintings, drawings, sculptures and sketches. The eccentric home has been kept as it was when Stern lived and worked here, packed with interesting artifacts that she collected during her travels, while in her studio her paintbrushes and easel remain as she last left them. In particular Stern was a major collector of traditional Zanzibar wood carving which she often used as frames for her paintings. She even brought back a traditional Zanzibari door for the entrance to her house.
