Cape Town Castle is a beaut from all angles, although those who happen to fly (not many of you, presumably) will have the best view. Those without wings will have to make do with climbing the bastions to see the curious shape of the castle.

Thought to be the oldest colonial building in the country, the castle was built by the Dutch at the end of the 17th century with defense in mind, although the pentagonal-shaped design leads us to believe there was plenty of aesthetics involved as well. The castle is home to a military museum and a gallery, along with no small amount of history and some seriously impressive views. A restaurant too, if you happen to be a bit peckish.
