Sooner or later, every visitor to Budapest ends up on Váci utca. Once the main road of the city, this chic street has been filled with fancy boutiques and elegant cafés for at least a century and a half. The northern stretch of the street - pedestrianised a few decades ago - has long been considered "the" Váci utca, the heart of the elite shopping district. Within the last few years, the city wisely pedestrianised the south end of Váci utca as well, literally paving the way for its rapid gentrification. Váci utca is perfect for window-shopping and people-watching - touristy perhaps, but irresistible.
