The huge church which dominates Brasov's central park was built between 1934 and 1937 to the designs of Sibiu architect Octavian Smighelschi. Its wooden, 18th century iconostasis was originally housed in the Sf. Nicolae Church in Schei, but was brought here in 1952 after restoration. The striking interior frescoes were painted in the 1970s by a local, Iosif Vasu.
