With its down-to-earth nature and immensely friendly demeanour, it is easy to forget that Birmingham is a regional capital and one of the most influential and important cities in the country. The city’s Town Hall is grand reminder, a stunning 19th-century classical building that dominates Victoria Square. The hall has been renovated on a number of occasions already this century, and it hosts an impressive mixture of concerts and events covering the whole spectrum of art.
