As we find ourselves in the middle of a mini-heatwave and craving some variety of ways to cool down, we thought we’d take a look and remind ourselves of some of our current winners of our Best of Ljubljana competition.
When summer temperatures are hovering above 30 degrees you might not want to think about going out, but if you don’t have AC at home then you can go and spend a few hours in a building that does have it. Hey presto, where better than a museum or shopping centre? Here are a few suggestions from our 2024 winners who offer cool experiences, cool food, cool things to do and places to hang out.
Best Museum: National Museum of Slovenia is the country’s oldest museum and the current title holder of Best Museum in our Culture category. It is home to some incredible artefacts including the world’s oldest musical instrument.
Best Shopping Centre: Aleja
Do we really need an excuse to go to a shopping centre? Nope. And better still, is that many stores are currently offering summer sales and discounts. Aleja is home to over 80 stores and a fabulous food court, plus lots more so there’s plenty to keep you occupied and out of the heat for a few hours. Best Outdoor Activity: Bananaway SUP Adventures
Even on sweltering days it can still be good fun to hang out around water and Bananaway SUP is a great way to enjoy the city centre and be just a few degrees cooler down at water level, just pop on a cap and sunscreen and away you go!
Best Indoor Fun: Woop! Izzivi (and Supernova)
If you still need to expel some energy then head over to one of the Woop! locations, where you’ll have no end of options for fun activities all undercover. So much to choose from and a great choice for family fun or work events.

Best Ice Cream: Vigò
Good enough to eat all year round but never so appreciated than on an exceedingly hot day. VIGO is a repeat winner in the Best of Cafes category, and rightly so. With over 20 flavours to choose from and no end of toppings, it’s easy to see why this place is so popular.
And once the sun retreats for the day we can start to think about dinner. Check out our Best of Restaurant winners and round off the day’s action with a fabulous dining experience.
Ahh, just the thought of ice cream and AC and we're feeling better already! But if you still don't fancy walking out of your front door, you can stay at home, put your feet up, peruse some of our other articles and plan some trips and activities later in the year.
