Potsdam’s own Peacock Island is the perfect place to strut your stuff, although by that we really mean ‘visit this gorgeous island and marvel at a castle that is serenity-personified. Pfaueninsel started life as a place where rabbits could breed (which they are rather fond of doing) and has been plenty more in the centuries since, but today it stands elegantly as another reminder of Potsdam’s royal history. The parks are some of the best in the area, complete with the peacocks that give the island its name. Please note that at the time of writing, the castle is being renovated and therefore cannot be visited. Still, you can certainly take a photo from afar.
