Deep in the west in the Grunewald forest, these German army barracks dating to 1924 have been cheered up and are ideal for nature lovers who also like being wired (free coffee, tea, internet access on Macs and wireless internet). A walk away are the visit-worthy Allied Museum, Brücke Art museum and the Dahlem Ethnographic museums. It's not convenient for partying in the East, but there's entertainment and a fireplace in the large common room. The plusses are pine bunk beds, 24-hour check-in, no curfew, and a friendly family-run vibe. Take bus 249 from Zoo Station to Roseneck and transfer to bus N°115.
