The Bridge of Love looks charming enough, but it actually conceals a story that is quite tragic. There was a girl called Nada who fell in love with a young officer named Relja, and they used to meet on the bridge. But a war separated the young lovers, and Relja was sent to Greece. In this case the distance did not make the heart grow fonder, at least not for Relja, who after some time fell in love with a Greek girl, and forgot about Nada waiting for him back in Vrnjačka Banja. Betrayed and devastated, Nada fell into melancholy and soon died of a broken heart. Girls stricken by the sadness of this story and the fear of losing their loved ones decided to write their and their significant other's names on a padlock, which is then tied to the bridge and they key thrown the key into the river.
