Beograđanka is one of the most imposing buildings in the city, a skyscraper (by Balkan standards) that houses offices, shops, media outlets and a 24th storey restaurant that has been shut for nearly three decades. It took not one but two men called Branko Pešić to conceive it, as the former mayor of Zemun combined with one of Serbia’s most beloved architects to create it. Renovations are needed, but it remains a dramatic piece of 20th century Serbian architecture.
