Monico Bars

  17 Lombard St      (+44) (0)28 9032 3211     more than a year ago

Tiled floors, vintage mirrors and a strong sporting theme infuse this traditional city centre haven. The front bar is full of Belfast characters enraptured by the horse racing - and the sports motif continues with bygone photos and prints, and large plasma screens showing the latest action (the neighbouring bookies is handy for a sneaky lunchtime bet). The back lounge has live music every weekend, and pub grub faves such as Irish stew, steak and peppered chicken go well with the daily drinks promos. Find the entrance down historic Winecellar Entry, off Lombard Street.

Not dog friendly ! Was shopping in town with my Bichon Frise dog and decided to nip into the toilets in the Monico bar with my dog as i did'nt feel safe leaving him tied up outside ,i was imediately approached by a highly agressive bar man who demanded that i leave ,because of health and safety issuess, i tried to reason with him but to no avail , i then asked him why he was acting the richhead to which the situation escalated , he then kicked open the door and attempted to man handle me out of the bar shouting ,!get to fxxk out ", now then i maybe a man of 55 but i did a lot of karate when i was younger so i struck him a palm heel strike to the jaw ,purely in self defence ,nullifying his attempted attack ! i then left of my own accord with small white doggy , a few seconds later he appeared again running down Lombard street shouting ,"are you the one who just clipped me in the bar ?" clearly still stunned from the experience ,i made it clear of the consequences he would encounter if he harrassed us again ! he then retreated back into the relative safety of the Monico when realising i was no pushover and completely serious ,now the moral of this tale is , i would not even consider it safe to have a piddle in this bar if all the staff behave like this and defo don't bring a dog !
