There is history everywhere in Bath — even in its shopping arcades. The Corridor is thought to be one of the world’s earliest retail arcades, taking ideas instituted in Paris a century earlier and adding an undeniably English layer to it all. The Corridor came into being in 1825 and went from strength to strength, although an IRA bomb in 1974 caused major damage and led to a complete reconstruction. The Corridor remains a beautiful amalgamation of history and commerce in Bath, and a mighty fine looking one at that.
