Second only to Llandudno Pier when it comes to Wales and length, Garth Pier is the veritable jewel in Bangor’s crown. It stretches out over the Menai Strait towards Anglesey like the elegant finger of an aged dame, with picture-perfect octagonal kiosks dotting either side from beginning to end. The pier was under threat from demolition for a while but was saved by the local council, and its Grade II status ensured it would be looked after until it could be looked after now more. There is no better place for a long stroll in the city than this spot. Be sure to drop something in the honesty box at the entrance gate.
