Built in memory of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan the mosque is one of the largest in the world. It took eleven years to complete and can accommodate up to 40,000 worshipers. Its stunning design has influences from Mamluk, Ottoman and Fatimid architecture and building materials were sourced from many different countries. It also has a clever lighting system that changes colour every night to resemble the phases of the moon. The mosque is open for visitors every day except Fridays and is free to enter.
