An often-overlooked area of medicine, psychiatry also happens to be immensely misunderstood. The history of the practice is explored at this engaging museum, half museum and half art gallery, the works being the creations of produced by patients at the Risskov Psychiatric Hospital. The hospital itself opened in 1852, a very different time when it comes to the treatment of mental health issues, and there are interesting timelines to be deciphered in the near thousand pieces of art on display. The name of the museum comes from Louis Marcussen, the Danish artist who lived at the hospital for fifty-six years (Ovartaci was her artistic name).
