It is difficult to fathom such a beautiful building being used for such a miserable purpose. The Aarhus Courthouse was built at the beginning of the 20th century, ostensibly for housing the city’s ever-growing number of criminals as the population of Aarhus exploded. This new building functioned as a jail and courthouse in one, but today we see it as a stunning piece of Art Nouveau architecture that delights in its details.
