A stranger wandering into this pub will probably need a little time to adjust to it. After this initial phase, it turns out that the surly looking bartender can actually smile. In fact, she does this while pouring fresh glasses of Amstel for her regular customers from two gorgeous, historic taps adorned with nostalgic pictures of Amsterdam. Fortunately, she doesn’t seem to bother with the four liqueur bottles on the bar that look as if they haven't been touched since World War II. There’s not much on offer for hungry patrons but if you'd like something a little more satisfying than a bag of crisps, try the homemade meat balls or toasted sandwiches made with spicy dry Hoeve sausage.
