Olomouc parks belong to the historical and cultural treasures of the city. The first Olomouc public park, the Rudolph alley, founded by the Archbishop of Olomouc, was a popular place for outings of the Olomouc population as early as the 1820s.
The park, located originally on military lands, was taken over by the city administration in 1832. This laid the foundation of urban public parks in Olomouc. Today Olomouc boasts three large parks covering more than 47 hectares – Smetana Park, Čech Park and Bezruč Park. Of particular interest is the main avenue of the Smetana Park, 710 meters long. Also worth visiting are the botanical collection greenhouses – the Palm-, the Cactus-, the Tropical- and the Subtropical greenhouses with a unique collection of plants and trees. A Botanic Garden and a Rose garden (Rosarium) are accessible in the Bezruč Park in summer. In the Botanic garden there are wooden sculptures placed that originate from several sculptural symposia held in Olomouc.
