Neptune Fountain was completed in the year 1683 and depicts the Roman god of the seas, Neptune, also known in Greek mythology as Poseidon. Neptune fought with his father Cronus (time) whose sword was molten into the well-known trident. Neptune is holding a trident pointing downward to calm the waters and protect Olomouc. Michael Mandík created the sculptural group with the central figure of Neptune. The robust figure of Neptune with a trident is situated on a rock with four seahorses serving additionally as water spouters. The sculptor placed his signature ”MAN/DIK/FE” on the rock below the figure of Neptune.
