Museums and the Dutch Caribbean are not what one would call synonymous, but if you have some spare time then this museum in the centre of upper town Oranjestad is worth a visit. The St. Eustatius Historical Foundation Museum is located in the Simon Docker House, one of the oldest and most beautiful houses on the island. If you ever wondered how the upper-class lived and worked three centuries ago, come and take a look at a handful of rooms filled with mahogany furniture, historic artefacts, ceramics and other interesting items. The method of displaying these objects isn't exactly what one would call modern, but the prehistoric archaeology section is fascinating. The 'Granny Statia' room which illustrates the ‘quiet and boring life’ Europeans enjoyed in their heyday is also of interest.

I need information about Hercule Daniel Bize 1740-1800 and his wife Adrienne or Adriana Heyliger. The family lived in St. Eustatius and their children were born there:the daughters ursule Elizabeth, Reneé Elizabeth and their son Charles Gabriel Emanuel born 1783. I thank you in advance for any information. Hercule D. Bize came from Moudon in Switzerland. Thank you in advance for your help. Best regards Barbara
