Fryderyk Chopin Society
Thourgh the wide variety of items of display, much may be learned about the composers life, the personalities he met while he was in Bohemia, and the works he composed here. Besides Mariánské Láznì Chopin also visited Karlovy Vary, Teplice und Decin in the course of his no fewer then four visits to this country.
During the summer season of 1836, he stayed at the White Swan Inn, as did his clandestine love Maria Wodzinska and her family. A portrait of Fryderyk by Maria dates from this time. It is to commemorate Chopins stay that the Inn, later to become the Chopin House, with its recital room and permanent display, has been preserved in its original appearance.
Since 1959 the Fryderyk Chopin Society has mande its home in Mariánské Láznì. Every year the celebrated International Chopin Festival and every two years the International Chopin Piano Competition are held here.
Moreover, our municipal music school also derives its name from the great poet of the keyboard, and a monument to him by Karel Otahal stand in the park adjoining the Colonnade.
