Somewhat at odds with the glitz and globalisation of Liverpool ONE, The Bluecoat is an old Liverpool institution with a story to tell. Originally opened as a charity school way back at the beginning of the 18th century, this impressive piece of English Baroque is actually the oldest surviving building in the centre of the city. That is reason enough to pay it a visit, but it just so happens to be a beaut as well, one of the most photogenic structures in the city without a doubt. Exhibitions and events are frequently held here.
