Wander around St James Cemetery and you’ll come across a rather unique piece of grim British history. The William Huskisson Memorial remembers the politician of the same name, the first man in the world to die in a locomotive accident. It wasn’t a pleasant one either, not that any train accidents are pleasant — Huskisson panicked when faced with an oncoming locomotive and clumsily fell into its path, only to get run over by the train, leaving his leg no longer a leg.
