The good news for those driving to Slovenia is that the days of having to stop and purchase an (impossible to remove) sticker for your windscreen at the first petrol station you see upon entering the country are now officially over. However, the bad news is that you still need to pay to use Slovenia’s generally very well-maintained motorways, only now you do so by registering your car’s registration plate online, purchasing the so- called E-Vignette. For most cars this means paying €15/30/110 for a weekly/monthly/annual pass. For larger vehicles (ie those over 3.5 tonnes or a height of more than 1.3 metres above the front axis) these prices are doubled. More detailed information can be found on the official site of the company that manages the motorways and the vignette system, ie www.dars.si.
