With a capacity of 300,000 spectators, Circo Massimo was the biggest stadium in ancient Rome built for chariot races, animal fighting, athletic competitions, and religious ceremonies. It was the most important centre of entertainment in the ancient city. Located in the Murcia Valley between the Aventine and Palatine hills, it is now a grassy jogging oval, large park area, and outdoor rock venue (many popular rock bands played here, including the Rolling Stones and Genesis.)
