Blue Curacao, a liqueur flavoured with the dried peels of laraha citrus fruit that lends it an orange-like taste, is without a doubt Curacao’s most renowned drink. Surprisingly enough however, it’s not actually the most popular drink on the island. In fact, it's whisky that has gained the most favour with locals at this Caribbean hotspot. If you were to look at which country consumes the most whiskey per capita, you'd see that Curacao is in an unlikely and impressive second place. But unlike many of the Dutch tourists who arrive here in droves or that have an encyclopaedic knowledge of the world’s finest brands that borders on religious fervour, Curacao natives simply like to drink whisky in all its wonderful forms. Just ask the bartender at your favourite local bar.
