This culture and arts centre takes its name from the area in which it's located: the old Jewish quarter within the walls of Castello. The area only actually acquired the nickname ‘the Ghetto’ in the last century, when the castle’s fortifications ceased their military function and, in their dereliction, came to serve as makeshift living space for some of the city’s poorest citizens. Much of the area was restored in the 1990s and the arts centre was opened in 2000. It hosts various exhibitions throughout the year, so there is always something new and interesting to see.
