The area in front of the imposing Totalitarian-style law court building was once a market place from which independence was declared on 22nd September 1908. The square itself didn't get its name till 1934 when a lampost with 3 lights was erected in the centre of the square. Troikata in Bulgarian means a group of three! There are some major roadworks going on here with the costruction of an underpass - so it may not be the most attractive place this summer.
