Originally built between 1897 and 1907 according to plans by the Italian architect Ricardo Toscani, the unique interior wall paintings were a particular feature. It is a tragedy that the landmark church of Burgas is currently closed and in danger of collapsing, ever since work was begun on the construction of a nearby underground car park. The whole area is cordoned off and a sad reminder of how fragile our architectural heritage can be.
