If you love nature and need a break from your hectic life, spend some time at the rustic outpost of Auriga Ecolodge, a former horse stable. You’ll find this giant wooden building right in the heart of the Kunuku, the wild Bonairan countryside. Only two rooms are available with double beds, but you won't be lonely as parrots, lizards, chickens, donkeys and iguanas also inhabit the grounds of the lodge. Put your feet up in a hammock or take an easy stroll or strenuous mountain bike ride through this semi-arid landscape. If you’re travelling as a couple, the whole lodge will be yours, which makes the outdoor shower much easier to use. Shops are a 15-minute drive away, so stock up on supplies and cook your own food in the kitchen or on the grill. At night you can watch the Milky Way from the wonderful rooftop terrace. The ecolodge uses solar and wind energy, it recycles much of its trash and even its human waste. Owner Hans will also plant a local tree or plant for you during your stay!
